The Greater Manchester Neuroscience Centre (GMNC) is located in Eccles, Salford and provides a Neuroscience service to the population of Greater Manchester (a general population of approximately 3.2 million people).

Neuro-surgical and Neuro-medical wards located on this site include:

  • The Acute Stroke Unit (ASU)
  • L1 Ward - Stroke Rehabilitation ward
  • The Acute Neurology Unit (ANU)
  • C1 Ward - Programmed Investigations Unit (PIU)
  • C2 Ward - Acute Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit
  • B7 Ward - Acute Neuro-surgery ward
  • B8 Ward - Acute Neuro-surgery ward
  • The Neurosurgical High Dependency Unit (NHDU)

Other Departments within GMNC include:

  • Behavioural Medicine
  • Neuro-radiology
  • Neuro-pathology
  • Neuro-physiology
  • Neuro-anaesthesia
  • Neuro-psychiatry
  • The Pain Centre
  • Neuro-Outpatients.

Currently, the medical team consist of ten Consultant Neuro-surgeons, 17 Consultant Neurologists, 5 Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and 3 Consultant Neuro-radiologists who support a network of junior doctors.

A team of Specialist Nurses lead services which include:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Epilepsy
  • Stroke
  • Sub-Arachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH)
  • Acute Neuro-Rehabilitation
  • Neuro-oncology
  • Motor Neuron Disease (MND)
  • Movement Disorder including Dystonia and Parkinsons Disease (PD).

There are also 4 Clinical Neuro-psychologists that work closely with the medical consultants and the specialist nurses.
